January

"January" is a personal love story set in January 1991 when Latvia and other Soviet Union-dependent republics were regaining their independence. It was a month in which the common struggle for freedom and the euphoria that accompanied it freed people from internal confinement and opened them up after years of internal exile.

Director Viesturs Kairišs analyzes the interweaving of emotions when receiving art, experiencing love, and facing war in life. He reminds us that the dangers the world faced in the past are still relevant today.
